Savoy 1918 will be Oslo’s first member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World
When Savoy 1918 opens its doors on 15th of June, it will become the first hotel in Oslo to join Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH), one of the world’s most selective collections of independently owned boutique hotels.
The milestone gives the Norwegian capital its first representative in a global network of handpicked hotels renowned for exceptional quality, distinctive character and highly personalised guest experiences.
Savoy 1918 is the result of an extensive transformation of a historic property in Tullinløkka, centrally located in Oslo. The ambition has been to create a hotel with a strong identity, one that appeals to international visitors while also serving as a relevant meeting place for locals. The hotel is operated by HEIMR Collection, the group behind Opus XVI in Bergen, which is already a member of SLH.
“Savoy 1918 has, from the very beginning, been a project where we wanted to create something with both soul and international relevance. Becoming part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World therefore feels both natural and a great honour. It gives us the opportunity to reach a global audience seeking something personal, distinctive and of the highest quality,” says Mikael Österlund, Chief Commercial Officer at HEIMR Collection.
A Highly Selective Membership
With more than 500 hotels in over 90 countries, SLH is known for its highly selective admission process, accepting only a handful of hotels each year.
“This is a recognition we are incredibly proud of. SLH sets exceptionally high standards, both during the admission process and through ongoing evaluations. For us, this confirms that we are delivering at the level we set out to achieve from the very beginning,” says General Manager Sara Forselius.
With Savoy 1918 joining the collection, Oslo becomes the latest Nordic capital to gain an SLH property, alongside Stockholm and Copenhagen.
Designed with a Sense of Place
International demand for smaller, independently owned hotels with a strong sense of character has grown significantly in recent years. Travellers are increasingly seeking places with identity, considered design and a compelling story.
Savoy 1918 has been developed with this in mind. In collaboration with Kritt Arkitekter and Metropolis Interior Architects, the building’s original qualities have been carefully restored and highlighted. Historic details have been preserved, while the interiors have been given a contemporary expression.
“Our ambition has been to create a hotel that feels authentic and deeply connected to both the building and the city. Becoming part of SLH demonstrates that this type of hotel experience also has a place on the international stage,” Forselius adds.
A New Addition to Oslo’s Hotel Scene
Savoy 1918 will feature 92 rooms, a restaurant, bar, courtyard, wellness facilities, as well as meeting and event spaces. The hotel has been conceived not only as a traditional place to stay, but also as a social destination in its own right.
Through its membership of SLH, the hotel gains access to a global audience actively seeking independent hotels with a distinct identity, while also helping strengthen Oslo’s position as an international travel destination.
